UPDATE: Victim identified in deadly Dubuque shooting


UPDATE: 7/3/20

Dubuque Police confirm Curtis R. Smothers Jr., 25, was shot in the chest on Thursday.

He was taken to MercyOne Dubuque where he was pronounced dead.

City of Dubuque traffic cameras showed Smothers was involved in a physical altercation with another adult male following an argument in the 400 block of Loras Blvd.

During the altercation, the offender pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Smothers in the chest.

Traffic cameras also showed the offender running into a building at 419 Loras Blvd after the shooting.

Authorities executed a search warrant at 419 Loras Blvd #1 as part of the investigation.

The name of the offender hasn't been released.

UPDATE: 8:15 p.m.

Dubuque Police confirm one person has died following a shooting on Loras Blvd. Thursday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m., authorities responded to Loras Blvd. and Bluff St. for a report of a shooting. They found one person with a gunshot wound in the 400 block of Loras Blvd.

The gunshot victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say there's no threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
