Woman charged in Estling killing was texting during crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) -- According to court records, the woman charged in the hit-and-run death of Kaiden Estling was using her phone while driving at the time of the accident.

Prosecutors have charged Kelli Jo Michael with Homicide by Reckless Driving and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Court documents filed over the weekend describe Michael's actions as using a “hand-held electronic communication device" to write or view a text.

She's currently being held in the Fayette County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bond.
