WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Jesup used a big second inning to take control and held on late as the J-Hawks topped conference rival Waterloo Columbus 7-5 on Monday night.
Leading 1-0 after the first inning, the J-Hawks Hailey Nie roped an RBI base hit into center to start off a big second. Minutes later Jacie Lange drove a deep shot to right-center, narrowly missing a grand slam. The two-RBI double put the J-Hawks up 4-0. Alexis Larson capped a 5-run inning by driving in two more with a base hit for a 6-0 Jesup lead.
Columbus countered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning and pulled within a run at 6-5 in the bottom of the 6th, but Jesup added an insurance run in the 7th to pick up the win.
