CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Four shootings happened in Cedar Rapids Thursday, one of them a fatal shooting, bringing the total number of homicides in the city to 8 this year.
The first shooting happened around 5 a.m. in the 1000 block of Regents St. NE. A fight broke out after a large party, according to police, a 20-year-old male was fatally shot.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Malik James Sheets. No suspects have been arrested and police continue to investigate.
Two shootings happened within 90-minutes of each other in the NE and NW side of Cedar Rapids. One of them, a drive-by shooting that injured a male riding a scooter.
Police received a call for shots fired around 5:16 p.m. in the 700 block of G Ave NW. Officered arrived and found property damage to approximately six homes in the block.
Preliminary information indicates that shots were fired from a vehicle at a person or persons. Officers believe it was a targeted incident and the homes that sustained damage were not specifically targeted.
An 18-year-old male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back in the 5000 block of C Ave NE. The initial investigation showed the victim and another person were riding scooters on the sidewalk when subjects opened fire.
The male was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Around 11:11 p.m. police were called to Kirkwood Parkway SW near campus for multiple reports of shots fired.
Officers spoke to witnesses and located shell casings. No injuries were reported and no property was damaged.
No arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate.
The last time homicide numbers reached 8 in Cedar Rapids was 2014.
