CEDAR RAPIDS(KWWL)--The Workouts with Dedric Ward are brutal…

Ward calls this Suicide Saturday…a little something he learned from a lifetime of playing and coaching football..

Dedric "It's a little workout I have learned in my days of playing…I have oviously made some adjustments to it and made it more difficult when I was doing it. They do a good job and like it is challenging workout and my philosophy is if they can do this workout now when they get back to school ball-- Those workouts will be a lot easier."

Ward has organized a team called the Cedar Rapids Kings for 7 on 7 tournaments this summer. The Kings won their first tournament last weekend in Coralville.

The Kings' quarterback Henry Clymer… is a two year starter for Cedar Rapids Washingon.

Like most, COVID19 has Clymer nervous for his senior year.

Henry Clymer "For awhile I was really really scared. but right now its looking pretty good for us but before I don't know I just don't want my senior year to be ruined you can only ask so much it is like more important things in the world"

Watts McBride "Yeah you think about it but at the same time you want to be you know stay out here working out stay safe people are working because you don't know what is happening in the fall..

Jaden Harris "Obviously if they end up cancelling it is for our health and our health is the most important thing obviously we would be pretty mad pretty sad but it is what it is."

And Coach Ward says it speaks to the character of this young men working hard and sacrificing when the immediate future is uncertain

Dedric "It is really about like and if they understand the sacfrifice they uses out here and what they use in the classroom and in everyday life they can obviously have a lot of success sometimes putting those videos down for a little while or staying off the streets--getting up early because they have something to look forward to encourage them enough to make some better choices in life if I can do that and have a small piece to play in their lives in that aspect I try to do as much as I can."
