Marengo man faces homicide charge after deadly collision while under the influence

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) -- A Marengo man is now facing charges for homicide by vehicle-operating under the influence for a collision that killed another man in March.

The two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of 32-year-old John Erick Halvorson of Cedar Rapids. It happened back on March 7th, 2020 on Highway 151 and Commercial Drive in Walford.

22-year-old Edwin Arenivas was taken into custody and is being held at the Linn County Jail.

The two-vehicles collided head-on after Arenivas crossed the center line and struck Halvorson's vehicle. Arenivas had to be mechanically extracted from his vehicle and flown to UIHC for life-threatening injuries.
