Police arrest a man after shots are fired while responding to a fight

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) – The Cedar Rapids Police Department received a report of a disturbance in the 1500 block of 2nd Avenue SE on Saturday, May 23 at 2:33 a.m.  

While working the disturbance that involved a large fight in the street, police officers heard shots fired.

Shortly thereafter, the Joint Communications Agency received a report that the shots were fired near 15th Street and Bever Avenue SE.  

Officers found spent and unspent shell casings in the area.  

Citizens assisted officers in locating a suspect that was hiding behind a house in the 1400 block of Bever Avenue SE.

Officers engaged in a foot pursuit and were able to apprehend the suspect.

Officers also located a firearm that was determined to have been reported stolen. 

The suspect was identified as Nyle Thomas Brocks, age 27.

 He was arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail.  

Charges included Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Trafficking Stolen Weapons, and Interference with Official Acts with a Firearm.
