(KWWL) - Despite the cancellation of many events due to COVID-19, Special Olympics Iowa is still going strong.
Organizers simply had to make this year's game virtual.
Calling it 'the virtual summer games series,' athletes are able to submit their achievements from home while also participating in events such as the opening ceremonies.
"The social media and internet and everything is giving us opportunities to still interact with people across the state," Special Olympics Marketing Coordinator Karen Whitman said.
The series began Thursday and runs through Saturday.
