Iowa City Senior Center starts ‘Sewing for Seniors’ campaign, making masks for older Iowans

Iowa City (KWWL) -- The Iowa City Senior Center launched a Sewing for Seniors project to encourage Senior Center volunteers to make face masks for local older adults.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommend people wear a homemade mask or other type of face covering when out in public.

The Senior Center will provide the sewing pattern and material needed to make these masks.

They partnered with the TRAIL of Johnson County for contactless delivery to area seniors.

Community members interested in supporting this project may donate at https://www.icseniorcenterfriends.org.

Every $5 donation provides five face masks for local seniors.

The Senior Center staff said the project is adhering to all safety and social distancing guidelines.
