It would be hard to find a more driven athlete than Aplington-Parkersburg senior Sophia Jungling.
A State qualifier in Girls Basketball and a state place winner in Cross Country, Jungling broke through as a junior at the Co-Ed State Track meet winning state titles in the 400 meters and 800 meter runs.
The Falcons returned a lot of talent from the Class 2A State runner-ups…
And then it was announced Spring High School sports season was suspended… Jungling and her Falcon teammates were devastated.
"We had really high hopes for this year so to not know has been or to be unsure is pretty overwhelming..
SOT/Sophia Jungling Aplington-Parkersburg Senior "I didn't know how to handle it..the next day I know I slept for a long time so I got up and I said this is not going to get me anywhere I got to get back up and work hard and it will come back."
And the Falcon track team has moved forward…practicing and working as if the track season could resume tomorrow.
Sophia "I have great teammates that will come out to work out with me and we kind of motivate each other through this and keeps our hopes high our coach he sends us workouts and kind of keeping our hopes up too.."
Senior Megan Johnson says her teammates are holding each other accountable with hard work on the track…but also with fun.
Megan Johnson AP Senior
"For sure we have made a lot of Tik Toks with our workouts and yeah it will be super fun to look back on those and see what we have done --yeah we have made a lot of memories." "
"One day at a time encourage your teammates AND WE WILL GET THERE AT SOME point even if it seems like its taking forever keep that motivation keep that drive and it will pay off at some point."
