A strong storm system will track through the region today. We have already had some strong storms with wind, hail, heavy rain tracking through early this morning.
Areas of fog have also formed and, in some places, it is dense. Use caution if you must travel this morning.
Winds will be easterly and continue to bring in plenty of moisture. Sustained winds will be 10-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph at times. Winds become stronger this evening and will be very strong through Sunday... just from different directions... Easterly today, southwest tonight, then northwest for Sunday. Gusts to 40 mph are likely tonight through Sunday.
We will keep several rounds of showers and storms tracking through this morning and into the early afternoon. Each could have heavy rainfall as well as some hail and strong winds.
A warm front will track into the region this afternoon which will bring muggy and warm conditions. Temperatures in our viewing area will range from around 50 near the Minnesota state line to the 70s south of Interstate 80. Your high will depend on where that front goes.
That front will also provide a lot of lift. We are pretty unstable today as the low tracks through the state, so it won't take much to get storms to fire up this afternoon. They will develop very fast and will move fast. All forms of severe weather are possible this afternoon... hail, wind, tornadoes, flash flooding. Make sure you know where to go in your home in case of severe weather. Timing will depend on the speed and placement of the front, but is most likely between 2 and 8 this afternoon and evening. Placement and timing may change as the day goes on, so keep up to date on the latest forecast.
A few thunderstorms/thundershowers may linger to around Midnight tonight with scattered showers late tonight into Sunday morning. Southern counties may not see much rain late tonight and Sunday as the system tracks northeast and pulls in some drier air.
Winds will be strong with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s on Sunday. We will have mainly sunny skies on Monday with highs in the upper 50s, but another system brings a few showers Tuesday through Wednesday. These look light and scattered. Highs will be mainly in the 50s next week with lows in the 30s.
