UPDATE: The Linn County Sheriff is reporting that Windstream customers can dial 911 again from their landline phones. The cause of the outage was due to a damaged fiber optic cable.
LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) — The Linn County Sheriff's Office Communications Center is reporting that they have been notified by CenturyLink of an outage.
The outage refers to 911 services for landline phones and are having trouble with customers that use Windstream for their primary landline phone service. Windstream customers in the Linn County area may not be able to reach 911 from their landline phones. CenturyLink and Windstream have technicians working on the problem.
Non-emergency calls are not affected right now. It is reported that if you need to reach out to the Communications Center for an emergency, please dial or text 911 from your cell phone.
