Mercy Iowa City begins visitor restrictions

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – Mercy Iowa City is putting in place tighter visitor restrictions to help prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory illnesses.

The announcement comes just an hour after Governor Kim Reynolds announced three cases of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, in Johnson County. The hospital said the restrictions will go in effect immediately.

Visitors will be limited to two healthy adults, aged 18 and older, per patient at any one time. Exceptions will be made for patients in critical care units and certain cases of maternal/child needs.

Mercy is recommended those with flu-like symptoms to call Mercy On Call (319-358-2767), their primary care physician or Urgent Care to inform them of their symptoms and any recent travel before seeking care.
