Early morning fire causes minor damage to Cedar Rapids home

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) - No one is hurt after an early Sunday morning fire in Cedar Rapids.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department said the fire happened in a two-story rental home in the 500 block of 16th St. SE around 3:19 a.m.

The tenant heard a noise in the basement and saw smoke, according to fire officials.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a light haze on the first floor and basement. They quickly extinguished the fire with a pre-connected line.

While the people inside the home were displaced, no one needed medical treatment.

The department said the damage was minor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
