CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) - One lucky eastern Iowa teacher has won this month's 'Tools for Schools' grant.

Miranda Jones is a preschool teacher at Cedar Heights Elementary. She's sharing the grant with three other teachers: Raine Kramer, Stacie Ramundt and Kara Rassmusson.

The teachers are purchasing a 'Feelings Buddies Self-Regulation Toolkit." The curriculum would allow students to recognize their triggers, label their feelings and manage their emotions.

In a preschool setting, children may have trouble sharing, turn taking, and expressing needs and wants appropriately. With the toolkit, they can work on their social emotional skills.

"Obviously, four-year-olds do have those big emotions, but I think everyone experiences big emotions, so this is one of those skills that we want to build now, so they can build on forever and use throughout the rest of their lives," Jones said.

The 'Cedar Valley Tools For Schools' Program is a partnership between KWWL and Green State Credit Union.
