Cedar County Sheriff’s Office issues vote of ‘no confidence’ against county attorney over handling of sex abuse cases

CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa. (KWWL) - Due to ongoing concerns and issues, deputies of the Cedar County Sheriff's Office have issued a vote of 'no confidence' against Cedar County Attorney Jeff Renander.

There are concerns about Renander's handling of criminal cases, particularly sex abuse cases.

The Sheriff's Office said Renander allegedly made inappropriate comments to the victim of a sexual abuse case he recently handled.

Renander is accused of victim shaming and minimizing traumatic experiences of multiple sexual abuse victims, including children.

In a press release, deputies said it's the public's best interest, for public safety, that Renander vacates his office.
