Waterloo is Iowa’s first ‘Dementia Friendly’ city–Help and resources available

Several Cedar Valley agencies are helping individuals and families dealing with and living with dementia . The Northeast Iowa Area Agency of Aging http://www.nei3a.org/ and the Alzheimers Association of Iowa https://www.alz.org/iowa have Waterloo offices working hard to help dementia patients and their local families and caregivers.

In addition, The University of Northern Iowa Gerontology Program is dedicated to studying all factors involving dementia.

Dr. Elaine Eshbaugh, Professor in the UNI Gerontology Program, writes a blog about the topic. Her blog is entitled: When Dementia Knocks.

Waterloo is also the first Dementia Friendly City in Iowa, and has launched its Dementia Friendly Action Team, headed by UNI Student, Megan Kooker. The Steele Report this week devotes the entire program to helping dementia patients and their families. Here is that program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDjmnFFGAdI
