DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) - With Super Bowl LIV right around the corner, local casinos are preparing for large sports betting crowds.

This will be the first time Iowans will be able to place a bet on a Super Bowl game. Wendy Runde, Vice President, said they've been getting calls from residents in near-by Illinois and Wisconsin to learn more about sports betting.

Runde said their props and kiosks allow for a variety of sophisticated bets. Making it ideal for expert sports betters and first-timers.

"It's also extremely user-friendly," said Runde. "Right, to navigate through something you maybe thought you couldn't bet on. But you look through that list of options and it's easy, it's interesting and it makes it more fun."

Many Iowans are also excited to have the chance to root for a fellow Midwest team: the Kansas City Chiefs. Marty Maiers, spokesman for the casino, said the home-region hype could encourage more people to go out and celebrate.

"And especially with the Chiefs, there is some local interest," said Maiers. "So we're expecting a really good crowd and a lot of excitement."

Once football season comes to an end, Runde said they still think they will be able to draw a good crowd for sports betting. Other up-coming major sports events include March Madness for college basketball and the return of the MLB.

"And we're going to take it one day at a tie and see what each season brings from a sports betting perspective because it's all new," said Runde.

Last year, the Diamond Jo generated more than $35,000 in state tax revenue. Iowa earned almost $1.2 million from sports betting taxes.
