(KWWL) -- The Sikorsky S-76B helicopter that crashed Sunday and killed all on board, including NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter, served as executive transportation for Illinois before being sold to a California firm.
The helicopter, with the tail number NE72X, was registered with the FAA as being built in 1991. It was operated by the state of Illinois from 2007 to 2015, according to helicopter information site Helis.
The helicopter, then registered as N761LL, was sold through the state's iBid system during the Rauner administration for $2.5 million in 2015. Island Express Holding Corp. of Van Nuys, California would be the next registrant.
The helicopter was still registered with Island Express Holding Corp. at the time of the crash.
Flightaware.com, a flight tracking website, shows the helicopter was in the air for just 37 minutes before crashing.
