CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Senator Bernie Sanders has taken a brief hiatus from making campaign appearances during the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
His absence canceled a campaign rally at the University of Northern Iowa on Wednesday. However, a rally was held Saturday at the university without the senator's presence.
New York U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Wisconsin U.S. Representative Mark Pocan were in Iowa on Sanders' behalf. They were joined also by filmmaker and author Michael Moore.
"The hard part is getting people in D.C. to listen to the voices of the American public over the deep pockets of the corporations and special interests," said Congressman Pocan Saturday morning.
Sanders is expected to return to Iowa with campaign stops in Storm Lake and Sioux City on Sunday.
