Fireplace fire causes damage to a condo

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) — Cedar Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire Saturday night (January 18th, 2020) which damaged a Cedar Falls house. The fire was located on Eastpark Road at 8:44 p.m.

Crews arrived and located a condo complex with nine attached homes. Public Safety Officers entered the residence and found smoke inside. Crews were directed to the back of the home by the resident.

Fire crews found a fire on the back side of the fireplace which spread from the inside of the home. Fire crews used a fire extinguisher to stop the fire while a hose line was being pulled. Crews extinguished the fire and completed overhaul.

The fire was contained to the fireplace shaft and there was no fire extension to the interior of the home. The home was ventilated and turned over to the tenant. No injuries were reported.
