Black Hawk County sees uptick in burglaries, thefts in 2019

Black Hawk County (KWWL) -- The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office released their 2019 statistics report and there was a rise in burglaries and thefts.

However, crime was down overall.

Jail booking numbers were also down, but the average daily population increased in 2019.

"Our major focus right now is on our increased jail population numbers...We are holding more forceable felons in the Black Hawk County Jail than ever in its history, and their heads stay in our beds for a much longer stay while navigating the courts," said Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson.

The number of fatal car accidents increased slightly; there were four in 2019 and two in 2018.

Drug violations saw a decline from 347 in 2018 to 213 in 2019.
