Tools For Schools, teacher seeks to purchase STEM materials

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) - An eastern Iowa teacher received the Tools For Schools grant for her classroom.

Katie Lyons teaches special education at Southdale Elementary in Cedar Falls. Lyons is using the grant money to buy STEM learning materials for her students.

The materials consist of clear tubes and gutters that will be used as ramps. This will allow the students to learn more about aerodynamics and velocity.

"My students will be able to use these tools independently and safely, which is great because they're very young.," says Lyons. "The materials are going to be sturdy, they'll be able to learn skills like problem solving and cooperation to work together"

The Cedar Valley Tools For Schools' Program is a partnership between KWWL and Green State Credit Union.
