Smoke alarms not working in Cedar Rapids house fire

Cedar Rapids (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids home has smoke, fire and water damage after a fire Monday night.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to the 1600 block of 14th Avenue southeast just after 9:30.

Firefighters say smoke was coming from the main floor and eve line on the roof, when they arrived.

A person or people were home at the time of the fire, and were displaced.

The person (They) did not need medical care.

The kitchen area on the first floor was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters say the fire quickly spread to the second floor because of construction in the home.

Crews put out the fire within 10 minutes.

The fire is under investigation.
