Trial of Jerry Burns, accused of 1979 killing Michelle Martinko, moved out of Linn County

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) - The trial for Jerry Burns, charged with killing 18 year-old Michelle Martinko in 1979, has been moved out of Linn County.

The trial will now take place in Scott County on February 10, 2020, according to online court records.

In a shocking announcement, his arrest was made public nearly a year ago. Burns was found through a DNA match within a public database.

On the early morning of December 20th, 1979, Martinko was found stabbed to death in her car, in the parking lot of the Westdale Mall just after 4 a.m.. Her parents had reported her missing around 2 a.m. Martinko had been stabbed multiple times in the face and chest and had defensive wounds on her arms.
