DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – A Dubuque man is out on bond before he's set to appear before a judge after 143 pounds of marijuana were seized in his possession.
According to Lt. Joe Messerich of Dubuque Police Department, Mitchel Arthofer was arrested after police witnessed a drug deal between Arthofer and someone described by police as CS, meaning “confidential source.”
Police discovered the drugs during a traffic stop on December 6th. Messerich says CS was driving when officers found 5 large duffel bags filled with marijuana.
According to CS, Arthofer told them to pick up the drugs in Colorado to be delivered to Arthofer in Dubuque.
CS cooperated with officers to stage in a public lot within Dubuque city limits. There authorities witnessed the drug deal as all 5 bags were moved from the first vehicle to a truck driven by Arthofer.
Police obtained a search warrant and then executed said warrant on December 7 to recover the duffel bags which they then weighed. The approximate weight was 143 pounds.
Online court records show Arthofer posted $25,000 bond on Tuesday, December 10th. He faces a charge of Failure to Affix Drug Stamp and a Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to deliver.
His first court appearance is set for December 12th.
