Don Bosco win 8 Man State Football Title

CEDAR FALLS(KWWL)– The top ranked Don Bosco Dons captured their 4th Eight Man State Football title since 2013 beating Audubon 35-19.  The Dons finish the season a perfect 13-0.

The Dons had their sights set on a 4th title in seven years in the 8-Man final —

but in a rare development — they had to play from behind early — Ethan Clocke hauled in a 7 yard pass from Kaiden Smith — 6, zip Audubon —

but the Dons responded with Thomas Even — he fires in from the 6 — that tied it up at the end of one —

and they took a lead in the second — Cael Frost has Lewis Havel open from the 29 — and Havel finished it — Dons led 20, 13 at the half —

second half — Even again — from the 12 — he finished with four scores in the game — but Audubon didn’t go away —

Down just 8 in the fourth and driving — but Dillon Welter comes up big — had 2 picks in the final quarter — and after falling in last year’s quarters — the Dons get redemption 35, 19 in the 8-Man Final —

Thomas Even/Don Bosco Senior

“Ever since then I think about it every day. It eats at me every day. It ate at everyone. Just to get back in this position and win another state title is a blessing.”

Colby Yoder/Don Bosco Head Coach

“Everyone was behind these kids this year. They knew the heartache they took last year. I’m extremely proud to be their coach big time. It’s going to be an emotional night with these kids for sure.”
