Airman surprises nephew, family with holiday homecoming

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – It happened during lunch at Hoover Middle School as when Airman First Class Eric Acfalle surprised his nephew.

The moment was caught on camera by KWWL and family of 11 year-old Keanu Ramirez.

Airman Acfalle had been working for the last year and a half at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington. He kept his homecoming secret from family for several months, including his mother who Acfalle says searched through his bank account records for proof of travel expenses. He also surprised his mother Thursday.

“I missed him so much since he left the air force,” said Ramirez.

He and Airman Acfalle have a bond that is more like that of brothers.

“I pick on him, just to toughen him up a little bit. I definitely care for him like a little brother,” said Airman Acfalle.

He’ll deploy to Kuwait in January, which is why Acfalle wanted to spend this holiday with his family.
