CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – Northern Iowa Men’s Basketball moved past Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon 77-72. The Panthers are now 4-0 on the young season.
Northern Iowa held an eight-point lead at the halftime break, 37-29; thanks in part to 10 first half points from junior forward Austin Phyfe from Waverly.
The Bears kept it close in the second half, trailing by just one with 6:39 left.
Neither team scored for the final 2:35 of regulation, until Northern Colorado’s Bodie Hume sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 65 in the final seconds.
Northern Iowa outscored Northern Colorado 12-7 in overtime to win 77-72. Panther guard Spencer Haldeman led all scorers with 25.
UNI was participating in the opening rounds of the Cancun Challenge, which will continue when the Panthers see University of Tennessee Martin on Tuesday.
This is Northern Iowa’s first 4-0 start since the 2014-15 season.
