Fresh snow Sunday night into Monday made for a frigid Tuesday morning. Morning low temperatures were in the single digits above and below zero, with wind chills as low as -22°!
Waterloo was 1° shy of the record low for the date, but Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City all broke records for November 12th.
You’ll notice, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids shattered their respective records by 11°. In fact, this is the earliest both cities have been this cold.
Dubuque’s first temperature at or below -5° happened on November 21, 1880. until this morning.
In Cedar Rapids, this is the first time it has been -6° or colder since November 17, 1959.
Fortunately, we are done with record cold low temperatures for the forseeable future.
