Oklahoma outlasts Iowa State 42-41 after Cyclones surge late

NORMAN, Oklahoma (KWWL) – The Oklahoma Sooners bested the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday night 42-41; improving to 8-1.

Oklahoma’s star quarterback Jalen Hurts lit the Cyclones up for five total touchdowns in just the first half. Iowa State was trailing 35-14 at the break.

After clawing back into striking distance, Iowa State sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy found Sean Shaw for a 33-yard touchdown to make it 42-35 with 3:35 to go.

Lawrence White picked off Oklahoma on its next possession to give the Cyclones a chance to tie or win the game. On their final drive Purdy floated a TD pass to Charlie Kolar to bring them within one at 42-41.

Coach Matt Campbell decided to gamble and go for the win. But on their two-point conversion attempt, Purdy was intercepted trying to force a pass into a tight window.
