New restaurant; comedy club add entertainment to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – The Novelty Iron Works owns several businesses in Dubuque’s Millwork District. But this Friday, it’s about to get a little bigger.

A new restaurant and comedy club will be adding two entertainment options to Downtown Dubuque. William Ensworth, General Manager of Novelty Iron Works, said that he’s excited for the upcoming growth.

“It’s been a process and we’re really excited for a lot of the new brands that are coming and we love that we’re adding comedy and southern-style food to the area,” said Ensworth. “And I hope that it brings a lot of people joy.”

Southern Ego is southern-style restaurant from MasterChef winner, Gerron Hurt. The Tennessee native said that that it was Dubuque’s small-town charm that led him to open his very first restaurant here.

“The city right on top of the Mississippi River was absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking; the architecture,” said Hurt. “And I ended up falling in-love with the city and said that I wanted to continue coming back here.”

But, for Sahar Chavoshi, Co-Owner of The Comedy Club, she said that it was the trendy-feel of the Millwork District that led to her to branch out from bigger cities. Their other clubs are located in Nashville and Chicago.

“This neighborhood is really coming up. They’re rejuvenating it. All of our clubs are downtown in the cities they are in,” said Chavoshi. ” And this just seemed like the coolest part of Dubuque and we had to be here.”
