UPDATE: CF Business and Professional Women’s Club raises $5k in scholarships at event; Cary Darrah honored

UPDATE: The 2019 Salute to Women event on October 22 was a success.  There were approximately 150 in attendance and the organization raised almost $5,000 for scholarships for non-traditional women students, according to organizer, LuAnn Ray.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – The Cedar Falls Business and Professional Women’s Club has selected Cary Darrah as their 2019 Woman of the Year.

Cary Darrah is the President and CEO of Grow Cedar Valley. Previously, she was Vice President of Community Development for Grow Cedar Valley, and President of the TechWorks Campus.

According to a news release, “Darrah has served on the Waterloo Airport Commission, Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau. Experience Waterloo, Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning Commission, Main Street Waterloo, Cedar Valley Coalition, Cedar Valley Arts Commission, Cedar Falls Public Art Committee, Leader Valley Board, Cedar Valley United Way, and is a member of many professional organizations aligned with economic and community development.”

Darrah will receive the award at the organization’s annual Salute to Women event on October 22 at the Diamond Event Center in Cedar Falls.  The evening will include a presentation entitled “Opportunities and Platforms, Overcoming Adversity” from Aaron Thomas.  KWWL’s Abby Turpin will emcee the event again this year.  Proceeds go toward scholarships for non-traditional students.
