FORT DODGE — Mid-Prairie’s Marie Hostetler and Center Point-Urbana’s Adriana Katcher went out with a bang on Saturday. The pair captured the class 2A and 3A state cross country crowns respectively, each doing for the third time.
Hostetler, the class 2A course record holder came up a little short of that mark on a cold, windy day. Still, she left no doubt, finishing in 17:58, a full 40 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Katcher, who had a string of two-consecutive titles broken with a runner-up finish last season, found herself back on top breaking away from the pack late to win in 18:29.
“Honestly I wanted to go out with a bang that was my goal,” she said after the win, “I wanted this one so bad, but I knew that I had a big field of competitors against me, and I was just happy to come out with a a win.”
