Aplington man killed in Grundy Center parking lot incident

GRUNDY CENTER, Iowa (KWWL) – A 29-year-old Aplington man is dead after being hit by a car in Grundy Center.

According to the Grundy Center Police Department, the accident happened Wednesday afternoon around 1:15 in the parking lot of the Casey’s Convenience Store.

A car driven by Jean Newton, 77, of Grundy Center was backing out of a parking spot. Suddenly, Newton’s vehicle accelerated backwards, hitting Anthony Guyer of Aplington.

Guyer was pinned between Newton’s car and a work trailer attached to his vehicle. Newton’s car continued backwards until it came to a stop against the northeast wall of the Casey’s.

Guyer was taken to Grundy County Memorial Hospital and flown to Iowa City where he died from his injuries.

Grundy Center Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
