Iowa vs Northwestern preview

IOWA CITY(KWWL)–Iowa Offense Banged Up/Iowa City
Brandon Smith has solidified himself as one of Nate Stanley’s go to guys — the Iowa junior leads the Hawks with 33 receptions this season–

Nate Stanley/Iowa Senior Quarterback
“He’s a very physical guy. He’s a big guy. He does a good job in the run game, too. He’s just physical all around and just takes care of his business.

This Saturday — however — that production has to come from somewhere else

Against Purdue — Smith tallied 9 receptions for 106 yards — that last reception turned out to be costly as he limped off the field with an injured right leg — it’s a tough blow for the Hawks — but the game goes on —

Kirk Ferentz/Iowa Head Coach
“That’s part of football. We’ve gone through it already this season in a couple of spots and you just make adjustments and keep playing.”

“Smith’s absence may not seem like that big of a deal since Iowa travels to face a Northwestern team with just a single win this season — however — the Wildcats seem to have the Hawks number lately in the series”

Cedrick Lattimore/Iowa Senior Defensive Tackle
“Northwestern beat us the last three years, so you come in to this game you’ve got kind of a chip on your shoulder a little bit.”

And while Smith’s production will be missed — Nate Stanley expects others — like Tyrone Tracy who’s show flashes with 15 receptions this season — to step in and fill the void.

“I feel like a lot of our guys have the ability to make those plays. We feel that whoever is out on the field has the ability to make plays for us.”
