#14 Iowa Hawkeyes thrash Middle Tennessee 48-3

Middle Tennessee at Iowa/Iowa City
Even with a high profile date with Michigan on deck — the Hawks made it clear there’d be no letdown on Saturday —

and that showed right away as Mekhi Sargent capped a 65 yard opening drive with a 4 yard score — 7, nothing Iowa early —

and they kept on rolling — late in the quarter — Nate Stanley rolled out and found Brandon Smith for an 18 yard score — it marked the beginning of an offensive onslaught —

Brandon Smith/Iowa Junior Receiver
“It was just a great play. The corner played the coverage that we anticipated and just gave me a great ball.”

Iowa kept it rolling in the second quarter — Stanley found Ihmir Smith-Marsette — 38 yards deep in to Blue Raider territory —

It led to a Brady Ross leap over the pile from the one and a 24, nothing lead at half —

and they just kept it going in the third — Smith Marsette using his feet — Iowa had more than 350 rushing yards in the game — that made it 34 to 3 —

and they shut the door late as Stanley found Brandon Smith for his second score of the game — and the
Hawks roll to 4 and oh with a convincing 48 to 3 win —

Ihmir Smith-Marsette/Iowa Junior Receiver”Tyrone, He got some good YAC after the catch today. Nico always found a way to get open on the seams. Just being able to spread the ball around and get the ball in other people’s hands keep defenses true. They can’t play just one person. It just shows how versatile this offense is.”

Nate Stanley/Iowa Senior Quarterback
“It just builds a lot of confidence. The guys we played they’re a great team. They play hard, so it’s very rewarding, very nice that we had this type of game and were able to produce the way we did.

Mark Woodley/Iowa City
“And right now — the Iowa offense appears to be hitting on all cylinders — going for over 6-hundred yards today — the most ever under Kirk Ferentz —

and they’ll look to keep it rolling as they head to Ann Arbor next week — In Iowa City — Mark Woodley — News Seven KWWL —
