DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) — RAGBRAI announced this morning that they are pledging $50,000 to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to support the efforts of Carson King.
The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital was named as RAGBRAI’s charitable cause for the upcoming year. The $50,000 will go toward their $2,000,000 goal.
24-year-old King rose to national fame when he held a sign up as ESPN’s College GameDay aired from Ames on the day of the Cy-Hawk rivalry game a few weeks ago. King’s effective poster has, at last count, raised well more than $1M for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
A reporter at the DSM Register dug into this local hero’s Twitter page and found an 8-year old post that was deemed “offensive.” King then made a public apology. The Des Moines Register reporter has since been fired.
