WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) — Iowa Oktoberfest kicks off in downtown Waterloo Friday, but one beer company won’t be on tap for the celebration.
Chad Shipman with Iowa Oktoberfest said festival organizers made the decision to pull Busch Light.
“We did some reading of our own besides what’s just being put out there and understand Carson King’s comments and what happened and realized he’s quoting a TV show on a channel that Anheuser-Busch spends a lot of money on. They cut their ties with a local,” Shipman said.
Shipman emphasized King’s cause and said the money was going to a good cause (University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital).
“We figured we wanted to support his cause more than we wanted to support a beer product,” he said, “We are the Iowa Oktoberfest and we want to support Iowans.”
Shipman said the members had a discussion about the controversy and said the move to pull Busch Light was best for their event and to support King’s cause.
Iowa Oktoberfest begins Friday, September 27 in downtown Waterloo at Anton’s Beer Garden.
