Ban the Box is an often controversial issue.
It’s been debated in Waterloo and other cities for years now.
Supporters often say it’s all about giving everyone, including convicted felons, an equal opportunity to find employment. They want ‘The Box’ removed from job applications because it asks a question about an applicants criminal history. If the box is checked, they believe that often means that applicant will not be given a fair opportunity to land that job.
Opponents often say it infringes on their right, as an employer, to decide who they hire for open positions.
