Kernels season ends with 6-2 loss in division championship

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) — The Cedar Rapids Kernels will have to wait another year to chase their first Midwest League title in 25 years. The Kernels fell 6-2 to Clinton in the winner-take-all game three of the western division championship.

Cedar Rapids found themselves playing from behind all game after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning. They pulled back within two when Jared Akins doubled off the centerfield wall. Gabe Snyder later knocked in Akins with a ground-out to first. That was as close as they got as the Lumber Kings pulled away down the stretch.

Clinton advances to face South Bend in the Midwest League championship series.
