CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — UnityPoint Health is hosting an open house to unveil a new transitional care facility later this week.
It’s all happening Thursday, August 22nd from 4-7 p.m.
The new facility is a skilled nursing center that’s 46,420 square feet with space for 46 skilled nursing and rehabilitation patient suites. According to a press release, the suites are not a nursing home but rather for short term rehabilitative care.
The center is a space patient can recover after injury, surgery, hospitalization, or serious illness with the intent to return home.
The community is invited to attend but asked to RSVP at 319-369-7941. The event will feature a tour of the new facility and an opportunity to meet the staff.
The new facility is located at 1420 UnityPoint Way, Cedar Rapids.
UPDATE — Today UnityPoint’s new Transitional Care Center was opened to the public during an open house.
There are multiple care providers on staff every day to support nurses.
The center provides a different level of care for patients. It’s a step down from a hospital for patients whose surgeons and insurance companies deemed them ready for discharge but may need more time and assistance to recover.
“Sometimes we have patients in the hospital setting that need to go to rehab, but they are so adamant that they’re not going to a nursing home that they actually go home instead and that’s really not good,” said Medical Director of the Transitional Care Center, Clete Younger, “So the advantage of this? It’s not a nursing home. So that stigma isn’t there and it’s not going to create that fear that they’re never going to leave there.”
The center has many amenities which include a rehabilitation gym, nurses station, larger rooms, and bathroom.
The center will officially open Monday, August 26th. To learn more about the facility visit their website.
