Cedar Rapids (KWWL) — Families in Iowa can learn more about the importance of cover crops in Iowa through an event at the Marion Airport.
The August 14 event is put on by the Iowa Learning Farms, Indian Creek Soil Health Partnership, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Linn County.
The cover crop field day will feature several topics and speakers.
A farmer, an agronomist and other officials will be sharing their experiences and tips for integrating cover crops.
The free event is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and includes a complimentary meal.
There will also be a drill on site for those interested in drilling cover crops.
Officials say cover crops are growing in popularity because of their abilities to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loads entering water bodies, increase soil organic matter and reduce soil erosion.
