IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – Kids At Kinnick on Saturday had some special guests, the 2019 Kid Captains.
The Kid Captain program is now in its 11th season and the program is a partnership between UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes to honor pediatric patients and their families.
The Kid Captains got a special surprise to start off the big day, an exclusive tour of the Hawkeye locker room. Inside they found their own commemorative Kid Captain jerseys. They continued on to storm the field with the Hawkeyes while signing autographs and taking pictures.
Kid Captain Charlotte Keller could not contain here excitement throughout the day.
“It was very very very very very cool,” says Charlotte.
Charlotte traveled all the way from Bellevue Nebraska. She will be the honorary Kid Captain when the Hawkeyes travel to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers. She says her favorite part of the day was meeting the players.
Charlotte’s mom Robin says the kid captain title is so much more than just a title, it’s a form of inspiration.
“They are positive when so many other people are having these rough days,” says Robin Keller. “They look to these little warriors for inspiration, to see them all together and being so elated to be here, it’s just awesome.”
Every Kid Captain story will be honored later this season, click here for the full list of kid captains.
