KWWL – The Chicago White Sox announced they’re partnering with the MLB to host the first-ever major-league game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville.
The game is against the New York Yankees and set for August 13, 2020.
Crews will soon construct a brand-new, temporary field for the game. It is expected to hold about 8,000 guests.
The design of the field will pay homage to the film and to Comiskey Park, the Chicago White Sox home field. Roman Wineberg, General Manager of the Field of Dreams, said that the announcement help put the park back on the map.
“And people all across the country saw the Field of Dreams built in this little corn field in Iowa,” said Wineberg. “And 30 years later, another field is being built, this time for major league baseball.”
And while the game isn’t for another year, many fans are already fired up.
“It has been non stop busy. The phones have been ringing off the hook. We have been talking about this for months with our staff,” said Wineberg. “And knowing the announcement was going to take off, we knew there was going to be a lot of up-roar and excitement over this. And even then I think we under estimated it.”
Construction will begin later this month. The ballpark will remain fully operational while work begins.
