Officer released from hospital after shooting

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) — The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon on South Riverside Drive, not from the Iowa City Transit Building. Police had tape around a bus stop at that scene.

Police reportedly responded to a report of shoplifting. The alleged shoplifter and officer both sustained injuries. The officer sustained multiple injuries to his face by what was later determined was a BB gun.

Both the suspect in the officer are in stable condition.

This is a developing story, stay with KWWL as we continue to learn more.

UPDATE: Employees with the DCI tell us the officer was released from the hospital last night.
