Armed convenience store robbery in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – Close to 6 a.m. this morning, the Iowa City Police were sent to Hawkeye Convenience Store off Commerce Drive for a report of an armed robbery.

The victim states that the suspect was wearing dark clothing and a mask. The suspect displayed a handgun while demanding cash and ran off in the victim’s vehicle. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned a small distance from Sioux Avenue SE. The victim was not hurt.

Sergeant Derek Frank with the ICPD told KWWL that an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from Hawkeye Convenience Store as well.

The suspect was described as a large black male, about 6 ft. tall and possibly having tattoos on his neck.

No arrests have been made.
