Oelwein drops lead, rallies past Cascade for district title

CASCADE (KWWL) — After dropping a large lead, the Oelwein Huskies rallied for a pair of seventh inning runs to top Cascade 9-8 and earn a class 2A district title.

The Huskies built a 7-0 lead through four innings capped by Steven Nicolay’s towering three-run home run to left field. Cascade rallied back with eight unanswered run. Reed Rausch’s three-run homer in the sixth gave the Cougars an 8-7 lead going to the final inning.

In the seventh, down to their final strike, a bit of luck struck for the Huskies. Ethan Thomas and Carsen Jeanes scored on a throwing error on a ground ball to the shortstop to take a 9-8 lead which eventually led to the win.

The victory marked the second straight season Oelwein knocked Cascade out of the post season.
