There is a slight chance of storm tonight north of Oelwein otherwise partly cloudy, warm and humid for most of the area. Low temperatures tonight will drop to near 70 degrees. Temperatures and dew points will go higher later this week and push the heat indices to around 105 degrees in the afternoon.
The heat index will likely remain above 80 at night. An EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH is in effect for Wednesday through Saturday.
In addition to the hot and humid conditions there is little to no chance of any rain through the weekend. This will dry the ground out considerably. We will have to watch to see if the this impact the Drought Monitor update either this Thursday or next Thursday. We have had less then 1” of rain in many locations so far this month. An example: Iowa City has only had 0.30” so far this month. This dry weather might continue through the rest of the month.
