WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) — South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg stopped in Waterloo Saturday before a Sunday event in Cedar Rapids.
Buttigieg toured downtown Waterloo with Mayor Quentin Hart. He also talked with local business owners about how they established themselves downtown.
Buttigieg said one way he hopes to bring people together is through national service projects.
“One of the things we’ve put forward is a call to national service,” he said, “Creating opportunities for paid national service. Creating opportunities for paid national service, year long experiences. Actually funding the Serve America Act, actually give us a quarter million in my first year.”
He also touted his higher education plan of reducing or eliminating tuition costs at public universities for low and middle class families.
